This piece is absolutely fresh to the market from my private collection.

It has been in storage for around 10 years as room on the wall was needed for another purchase with the intention of putting it back on the wall eventually. It doesn’t look likely to be back on the wall anytime soon so Iv decided to offer it for sale for someone else to enjoy like it should be.

The single weight time piece only movement works perfectly and is fronted by a brass engraved dial with a silvered chapter ring. The dial is signed A. Bertl Wien. Alois Bertl is recorded from 1852-1860. With this type of clock being of high quality like all Austrian clocks everything was made by hand to order for the wealthier persons of society and aren’t to be mistaken for the mass factory produced German ones. With each clock being hand made and recording of this maker being only 8 years the likely hood of finding many more by him isn’t high.

The heavy well made oak case is not a common style but that said very attractive. The fine carving around the case and to the base of the case is just fantastic and still crisp 170years on. Instead of the door being full length like the more common Vienna’s this one has two doors. One allowing access to the dial and winding arbor the other allowing access to the pendulum this is also an unusual feature. All of this is what made is so appealing at the time of purchase.

The case has undergone a good clean and a wax, the chapter ring has been re-silvered and the movement service all done by Westmorland Glass - Steam Mill Clocks. The case has not been restored and does show signs of age with age related marks you would expect from a clock 170 years old.

If I had the room I’d be more than happy to hang this back on my wall with my other clocks but as I don’t I feel it’s an injustice to keep it hidden away.

I have tried to include as much detail in my description and photos as i can. should any interested parties wish to ask questions or to view the clock via a video calling platform or in the flesh i very much welcome them too. Please note that although the picture depict this as quite a large clock, it is actually not a lot bigger that a typical Biedermeier Vienna wall clock.

If the asking price is paid in full then I will deliver and set up the clock free of charge to the English mainland, Wales and the Scottish Lowlands. I will also provide a 12 months guarantee under these circumstances. This is the same service that is provided by a high street retailer without the customer having to pay for the overheads

If a lesser offer is accepted, then this will be sold as a trade sale with the clock as described and with shipping costs the responsibility of the buyer.
