This is a very nice wheel barometer, the quality of which is rarely seen, and should not be confused with the plentiful instruments made later in the Century. The photographs are quite poor and the item looks much better in the flesh.
This instrument was made by Francis Saltery,94,Holborn Hill,London who was working from 1800 to 1830.This barometer was made at the very beginning of his career.
This instrument cannot be compared to the 1820s Sheraton barometer which are now available for a few hundred pounds but will certainly be appreciated by the connoisseurs who will realise how very nice this barometer is.
The sides are veneered horizontally and the edges are dot dash strung.
It is veneered in the finest Cuban mahogany and inlaid with fans.
It is in excellent condition having been expertly renovated many years ago upon my acquisition.
It is 38 inches long,9 3/4 inches at its widest point and the carcase is almost 2 inches deep.
Interested parties are encouraged to view this very fine barometer
