It is a pleasure to offer this very rare true Vienna regulator wall clock which has the feature of silk suspension which is something we have seen on only one other Vienna Regulator. It will date circa 1840
Austrian clocks such as this are entirely hand made and finished by time served master clockmaker and should not be confused with the much cheaper mass produced German clocks.
Austrian clocks were only made for the most discerning customers (who could afford them) and took many months to complete individually.
Subsequently they are rare items and I have spent 30 years driving all over Europe to source these clocks, particularly the finer examples.
Unfortunately there are too many people selling modern reproductions to customers.
I offer a full money back guarantee as to the authenticity of my Vienna clocks.
I also welcome any expert appraisal whatsoever.
Obviously, any potential clients are very welcome to view the clock prior to purchase (or pay on delivery)to ensure that they are satisfied with their purchase
As you can see from the photographs the case is veneered in mahogany which is enhanced by contrasting boxwood string. The backboard is also veneered in mahogany..There is a rebate on the edge of the case and door to reduce the ingress of dust. The complicated pediment is original to the clock.
The 7 inch two piece silvered dial is in good condition and retains its original fine steel hands . It also has a well finished cast and engine turned bezel.
Another early feature is the brass beat plate (worn)
?The clock is 39 1/2 inches long , a maximum width of 11 1/4inches and 5 inches deep .The width at the door is only 9 1/4 wide
?The hand made weight driven movement is beautifully made and currently untouched and dirty but this will b professionally restored to the highest standardsd. It has silk suspension whereby the pendulum hooks onto a thread The pendulum itself is very unusual , having a steel rod and brass fronted bob with an open back . When clocks have silk suspension it is usual to have a lighter pendulum than when using a conventional suspension spring
The winding square is very small but fortunately the original winding key is present.
?The movement is mounted into the case by means of latched plates
The condition is excellent .There are some age related marks as you would expect but nothing else worth mentioning specifically. It is ready to hang straight on the wall.
The proportions are very pleasing and is worthy of gracing the wall of the most discerning collector.
The sides of the case are glazed with boxwood stringing .
Hopefully the images will show show interested parties all they need to see but prospective buyers are very welcome to view.
This clock is much nicer in the flesh as my photographic skills are very poor.
If the buy it now price is paid in full I will ,deliver the clock free of charge in England ,Wales and the Scottish lowlands and provide a 12 months guarantee.
Should a lesser offer be accepted it will be a trade sale with the clock being sold as described and shipping costs being the responsibility of the buyer.
